About Us
Molten Bliss Candles
Did you know, our candle business began after buying our youngest daughter Maddie, a candle gift set for Christmas. The excitement of opening something Maddie could make, was as exciting for us, as it was for Maddie. When we decided one winters morning to see what was actually in the box, we were a tad disappointed by the poor quality of candle making equipment provided and the lack of inspiration within the instructions.
We soon ran out of wax and thus the task began to look for wax supplies. Having a vegetarian wife and a daughter learning about renewable sources meant we naturally drifted towards soy wax. Although more expensive than parafin based waxes, the benefits seem to far outweigh the costs, thus the fact that the soy based waxes burn much cleaner and last much longer, meant that what we were making were a superior choice.
It was when pouring or first batch of soy wax candles, Maddie asked "why can't we use different colours in the same jars?". Although the process of making the candles would be a little more time consuming, it was a brilliant idea and when we made our first few, they looked and smelt fantastic. We had a look online to see if anyone else was really doing this kind of thing and realised that the options for layered candles were quite limited, especially those using soy wax.
It's fair to say that after a few learning curves, some good investment and employing the ideas suggested by our seven year old daughter, were quite happy at how customers and friends have supported our little start up and helped put us on the map. Maddie's favorite part in this story, was helping me put questions together, to interview a candidate (my Wife), for the position of creative and marketing manager. To say we were in tears laughing at some of the questions is a bit of an understatement. Maddie took her interviewing role very seriously and amongst some of the questions, "How much do you love me?" followed by "Can you give me £10 to prove this" were just a few that literally had us in stitches. Evidently we had no choice in employing my Wife by the end of the interview but Maddie does check with her now and then that the role is being taken "seriously".
Here are a few tips for burning your candle:-
If used correctly our candles will provide you with a beautiful clean burn – here are some tips to help you with this as soy wax performs differently to more commonly used paraffin wax:
The first time you light the candle, let it burn until the wax has melted edge to the edge, failure to do so will result in your candle tunnelling. This is because soy wax has what is called a ‘memory’, meaning when you light a soy candle for the first time, then extinguish it, the next time you burn it, the candle will melt across as far as it did the first time. Keep the wick trimmed to around 4 or 5mm at all times. The wick should be trimmed after every 2 hours of burn time. If your wick doesn’t appear to be burning very well on first lighting, extinguish the flame, trim the top of the wick and relight it. Due to the nature of soy wax, light your candle for no longer than 2 1/2 hours at a time. Once extinguished the scent will still linger and fill the space. Keeping soy candles lit for too long can burn off all the fragrance too quickly. Once you finish burning your candle place the lid back on to keep the scent locked in. We recommend the use of a wick trimmer as this makes it easier to maintain the candle as the wax melts lower into the jar. A wick snuffer also helps for the same reason and will help to keep the wick in its best position so that next time you light it, it still gives a long, clean and even burn.
Placing your candles on a lower surface (coffee table or side table , but safely out of reach of children or pets) will help with scent throw, as heat rises and the scent with it, therefore the lower your candle is the more of the room it will fill with gorgeous fragrance. Our candles are all hand poured, not mass produced. Sometimes the top of the candle may appear slightly uneven, this is a sign of natural soy wax and will not affect the quality of the candle.
